Dressing Table - 9 Essentials for the perfect Vanity

Dressing Table - 9 Essentials for the perfect Vanity
WHIITELIST selects the 9 essentials for the perfect dressing table or vanity area.

Having a dressing table is quite the luxury.
A place to make up oneself, style, with everything in one place an area to just beautify.
Since I was a little girl I wanted a dressing table, it may have been on every Christmas list, until I turned 22 and in our first apartment together, my dream came true.
For the past 5 years, my IKEA Hemnes dressing table has been on quite the journey, our apartment in Canary Wharf, my mother’s house in East London and then to it’s current resting place our home here in Barnes; yet the essentials have basically remained the same.
Flowers, a memory, jewellery boxes, perfume and some other things, see below.

Any that interests you, I like the Vogue on: Coco Chanel as I get to delve into the life of one of fashion’s key visionaries Coco Chanel through words and images.

Making myself pretty in the morning is thirsty work (yes the thirst is real!) and even more so when it literally takes me 5 minutes to put a full face of makeup on. Everyone knows how important it is to keep hydrated, and if you have been reading WHIITELIST for a while you most probably know I am a sucker for beautiful bottles, like this one the Vogue Water Bottle or the Bobble here and the recent #WHIITELISTBuy here

I have spoken about ‘Flower Power’ and the effect that flowers can have on one’s mood here. The bouquet ‘Gisele’ from Bloom & Wild consists of mini pineapples to get you into the carnival spirit of Brazil, vibrant Alstroemerias and palm leaves.

If it’s personalised I  go for it, there is something about bespoke gifts commemorating an occasion. I chose this pineapple to remind me of the Rio Olympics 2016 from Oakdene Designs at Notonthehighstreet.com

The Diptyque Baies scented candle is absolutely an essential for homes, and a must have for dressers. Once you’ve been treated to the beautiful scent for 60hrs, you can use the glass holder for something else like brushes, pencils or coins.

Dressing Table - 9 Essentials for the perfect Vanity

One of my favourite photos of all time is the one in which my wedding photographer Christian Keenan captured when I had exited my father’s car on my wedding day. It takes pride of place on my dresser within a Muji frame to remind me that on my wedding day, I did my own makeup in less than 15 minutes and looked beautiful.

  1. Jewellery Boxes
I don’t have a traditional jewellery box, I have many. It’s mismatched modern achieved with the IITTALA grey Vitriini and IITTALA clear Aalto bowl. One to hold my everyday jewellery and the others to hold coins, trinkets, other pieces of jewellery that I wear less often.

I change my perfume daily, using different scents to provoke a different personality ( read using scents to invest on my purse-onality’) I will wear a Citrus scent if I want to feel extremely cheery, or if I want to feel understated, enigmatic and beautiful I choose the Byredo Mojave Ghost (as I did on this day) a mix of Sandalwood, Magnolia and a top note of Jamaican Nesberry.

  1. Handcream
Recently I came across the Swedish eco-luxury brand BJÖRK & BERRIES and immediately fell in love with their Dark Rain hand cream. I wash my hands a lot, and I clean without using gloves (naughty I know) so a hand cream that consists of witch hazel, creatine and aloe vera for my dry skin to soften them, that is 98% natural shouldn’t just be on my dressing table but everyones!
