ESPA Life at Corinthia - Luxury Spa day in Central London

ESPA Life at Corinthia Reception
For the past few months, I have had an eternally long to do list.
I have to pack my hospital bag, clean, read parenting books, plan my work schedule, have date night, plan my blog schedule, post on time etc etc. Some of the things on this list haven’t been tended to, and that is so unlike me for a Piscean who acts like a Virgo!
There now seems like there is so much to do, so when I had to plan a time to relax for mummy’s 50th, I jumped at the opportunity to prioritise myself.

Choosing the Corinthia was easy. It’s located on London’s Victoria Embankment, with killer views of the London Eye and the Thames, a four-storey spa that has been nominated and won much-deserved awards and oozes sophistication...yep just what mama needs!

When they call the ESPA Life at Corinthia ‘the next generation of spa’ they’re not kidding. It quite simply is the next generation of spa. Walking into the lobby with the stunning structure, I wasn’t sure whether to take a ton of pictures for my Instagram or to check in. Having gone with the latter, sat down to some ice cold water and filled out the usual health questionnaire, I returned to snapping like my life depended on it until the attendant came to show us around the facilities.

We took the elevator down to the Thermal suite on the lower floor and began our tour. The spa is spread over four floors, FOUR FLOORS and has 17 treatment rooms, a private spa suite, nail studio, swimming pool, vitality pool, marble heated loungers, sleep pods, spa cafe and lots more.
Once shown to the female changing rooms and lockers, we found towels, robes, slippers and other amenities for us to slip into and begin our spa journey.

The robes were ridiculously luxurious by the way, upon slipping into it, I immediately felt relaxed, tranquil and serene.

Our journey started on the thermal floor, where I would advise everyone to start. One is immediately greeted by one of the most dramatic of entrances I’ve ever experienced...crystal chandelier, dark sumptuous seating, marble loungers and fire burning, all within the space of 30 seconds. We made our way to the end of the floor, with a strategy of working our way forward. Unfortunately, the amphitheatre sauna was down for maintenance, so I took a long dip in the indoor pool. I would like to say I swam tens of tens of laps (I swam about 8) I didn’t, I just relaxed. The environment fulfilled its objective of making me feel incredibly relaxed, tranquil and serene.

From there we enjoyed 30 minutes in the steam room, nearly an hour in the vitality pool flitting between the various massage and air jets before heading back to the female changing room to experience the lifestyle showers and sauna before lunch in the spa lounge.

The 360-degree approach of care to anyone who enjoys a day here is simply phenomenal. The spa takes care of the body and mind, and the food feeds the soul. After being seated in our white booth, we were treated to a wholesome meal sans additives, sugar, salt, trans-fats, food dyes and any other artificial nasties. I chose the Green Alkyliser juice, made up of kale, parsley, cucumber, coriander, celery, carrot and apple, all the vitamins I needed in one shot. My main, a steamed Lemon Sole with Samphire and Shallots an indulgent blend of omega-3 fats and fibre, and the treat to accompany my peppermint tea, a wheat and dairy free cinnamon apple cake...yum!

Following lunch and a snooze in the sleep pod, I met an Angel...literally, let me start from the beginning. I was lucky as mentioned previously not to suffer at all during pregnancy, bar some minor gripes focussed solely around my lower back and soles of my feet. Not necessarily pain, but stiffness and a general feeling that if it was rubbed within an inch of its life, it may return back to ‘normal’.
Cue Angel.  He sat me down in the treatment room for my personal consultation, we discussed my problem areas, and he formulated a targeted body treatment, essential oils and massage technique, personalised to my needs. That massage technique was a mix of firm and soft, alternating periodically over the next hour. No wonder Angel is said to be the most requested therapist.

The day was absolutely wonderful, I left feeling relaxed, tranquil and serene (see how I have said that more than 3 times) now I will definitely NEED to return.
See here for the personalised massage I had, and the other treatments available here.

The spa is a mobile phone, Blackberry, pager, camera and smoke-free zone, so these images are not my own, although I was able to sneak a snap here and there, which you can see over on my Twitter and Instagram.

WHIITELIST recommends the City Escape package here, so when will you book your spa day? When was the last day you had some ‘you’ time?

SAL xx
