5 things I learnt from the #FlavoursOfLisbon Event with Monarch

5 things I learnt from the #FlavoursOfLisbon Event with Monarch
And why you need to visit Lisbon...right now!

Monarch recently launched flights from London Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham to the Portuguese capital Lisbon; and to celebrate the new Summer 2016 route, I joined a group of bloggers (with my blogger friend Chloe Pierre) for an evening of cooking at Atelier des Chefs.

Lisbon is a city I haven’t yet visited. Surprising to me as I love travelling. It’s one of those ‘perfect destinations’ for a city break or a long weekend. Being part of the ‘can cook, won’t cook’ squad, I was rather looking forward to learning about wonderful dishes (if only to feedback to my lovely husband for him to cook!) and pretend I was my favourite Portuguese Chef Nuno Mendes of Viajante and Chiltern Firehouse fame for a night.

The #FlavoursOfLisbon menu included traditional Portuguese fare, Portuguese Pork and Clam Stew, Carne de Porco a Alentejana and Portuguese Custard Tart (Pasteis de Nata)...Pasteis de Nata is my absolute favourite dessert, so it was safe to say I was extremely excited!

Once cooking was completed (cannot say that it was any of my handiwork) we were able to sit down, enjoy the meal and get to know one another. The Portuguese love to sit down with family, eat, drink good wine, and I can say that is what we did. I was able to get to know other bloggers such as Franca of A Moment with Franca, Flora of Flora the Explorer and Chloe of Chloe Pierre LDN, eat and drink...water (as I am breastfeeding) ha!

Bloggers at #FlavoursOfLisbon, can you spot me?
It was such a lovely evening and I am grateful to the PR team for inviting me, as I was able to meet other bloggers, enjoy good food and learn these 5 Reasons why I/you need to visit Lisbon today:

GO You can now travel from London Gatwick, Manchester or Birmingham to Lisbon (the oldest city in Western Europe) for as little as £33 with Monarch in just 2.5hrs
STAY at the Memmo Alfama in the heart of Lisbon, with stunning views of the Tagus river and the city, and steps from the Lisbon cathedral and the São Jorge Castle
EAT Portugal is well known for its delightful food the world over, and the one of the best places to sample it’s fare is the institution that is Ramiro
You could also make the Pasteis de Nata yourself with the above recipe, or sample the real thing at Pastéis de Belém
SEE Lisbon, one of the top 10 instagrammable cities in the world, from the iconic yellow trams, to the pastel and brightly coloured buildings of Baixa and Alfama
WHEN Go for a long weekend, such as the upcoming Spring and Summer bank holidays, or enjoy anytime from late Spring to late Summer

Have you been to Lisbon?

SAL xx
